--> Latency is the delay in the user request to reach the server and get the server response back to the user over any WAN or Internet Link.
--> Latency is calculated in MilliSeconds.
--> Let us take an example Banking Application to understand the Latency:
i) User Clicks on Send Payment Button to send the money using Online Banking
ii) Browser sends the request to the Online Banking Server as soon as User Clicks on Send Payment Button
iii) This request is sent all over the Internet to the Online Banking Server
iv) Online Banking Server Processes this request by sending money to whom you want to send
v) Online Banking Server provides you the response page by saying "Payment is Sent"
--> The time taken to do all these things is known as Latency.
--> Latency in the network mainly depends upon the below things:
1) The type of Physical Media ( Wired or Wireless)
2) The Distance between the User and the Server ( Higher the Distance then Higher Latency)
3) The Number of HOPS ( Networking Devices) in between User and the Server
4) The Load on the Server to process the Request
--> If the network or application is experiencing high latency then the users would face issues in accessing the application.
--> It is recommended to configure the network or application with lower latency.
--> Some Applications require a fixed amount of latency in order to work.
--> You can calculate the Latency by using Ping Command.
