1) Performance is downgraded when you have a large number of unused objects
2) Takes time in saving and loading the configuration
3) Increase in Memory and CPU utilization due to monitoring of unused objects such as pools, nodes or Virtual Servers, etc
--> It is recommended to delete all the unused objects in F5 System once in a month.
--> Taking the backup of the configuration is recommended before deleting the unused objects from BIG IP System.
--> The unused objects or orphaned objects can be one of the following:
1) A virtual server that is not associated with any of the Pools or Irules
2) LTM Policy which is not associated with any of the Virtual Servers
3) Custom Profiles which are not associated with any of the Virtual Servers
4) Custom irules which are not associated with any of the Virtual Servers
5) Pools which are not associated with any of the virtual servers
6) Nodes which are not a member of any Pool
7) Custom monitors that are not used anywhere in the BIG IP system
--> To find the unused objects in the BIG IP System, you need to do the following:
i) Generate the Qkview on the BIG IP device on which you want to remove the unused objects
ii) Upload the Qkview on the ihealth portal (ihealth.f5.com)
iii) Navigate to config explorer > unused objects
--> Once you found the unused objects in iHealth Portal now you can go to the BIG IP system and delete the unused objects.
