--> A PAC file is a text file that tells the web browsers how to handle the URL Request.
--> By using PAC File, We can tell the browser to forward the traffic to one or more proxies based upon the URL.
--> PAC file can also tell the browser not to forward the traffic to the proxy rather forward directly depends upon the URL.
--> Each and every browser need to be configured with PAC file information.
--> Browser can get the PAC file information using two methods:
1) Automatic ( WAPD Protocol)
2) Manual ( Need to enter the Web server URL where the PAC file is hosted).
--> PAC File is written in JavaScript, The browser is going to execute the Javascript once it downloads the PAC file from the Server.
--> If the browser supports WAPD then we can tell the browser to get the PAC file from DHCP or DNS request.
--> WPAD is a protocol that allows the browser to find the location of the PAC file using DHCP and DNS lookups.
--> We can define PAC file in the following places:
1) Local Machine
2) Web Server
3) Proxy Server
Advantages of using PAC files:
--> We can do load balancing based upon PAC file ( Forward the traffic from one subnet to one proxy and other traffic to other proxies)
--> Centralized Management.
--> Proxy Failover.
--> If you are migrating the proxy, you can do it easily by using the PAC file.
