--> In WCCP, we use two types of network devices: i) WCCP Client ( WSA) ii) WCCP Server ( Router)
--> The WCCP client registration is started by the WSA using “here I am” (HIA) message.The router or WCCP server replies with an “I see you” (ISU) message.
--> If the WCCP Server does not hear “here I am” (HIA) message for 30 seconds then it assumes the WCCP client ( WSA) is inactive.
--> In order WCCP client to successfully register to WCCP Server, both need to match following
i) Service Group ID
ii)Password check
iii)Data forwarding method (L2 or GRE)
--> Data forwarding method specifies how to forward the data between the router and proxy server for redirecting the traffic.
--> Two methods are used for Data forwarding between Router and Proxy Server.
i) GRE
--> Sends the packets between Router and WSA by encapsulating into the new header.
--> Helpful if the Router and WSA present in different subnets.
--> Adds more overhead
ii) Layer 2 Rewrite
--> Sends the packets between Router and WSA by changing the destination MAC address.
--> Helpful if the Router and WSA present the same subnet.
--> Less overhead
